IWD 2026 Zine Workshop
As part of International Women’s Day 2026, we hosted an online Digital Zine Workshop that brought together participants across geographies to reflect, create, and collectively imagine through feminist storytelling and creative practice. This workshop focused on creating a space where women and gender diverse people could tell their own stories in their own ways. Through digital zine making, participants explored themes of identity, care, resistance, joy, memory, anger, solidarity, and everyday feminist realities.
Why zines?
Rooted in DIY and feminist traditions, zines have historically been used as tools for self-expression, documentation, resistance, and community building. The workshop introduced participants to the history and politics of feminist zines while encouraging them to experiment with collage, text, visual storytelling, textures, symbols, and digital making tools in accessible and low-pressure ways.
The session combined feminist facilitation, participatory methods, and creative reflection to build an intimate and supportive space for dialogue and collective making. No prior art or design experience was required, allowing participants to engage freely and creatively at their own pace. Participants engaged in guided prompts, breakout-room discussions, and hands-on creative experiences, which resulted in a series of deeply personal and imaginative digital zines.
The workshop explored themes such as:
- Digital activism and online safety
- Feminist leadership in uncertain times
- Collective care and resilience
- Storytelling as healing and advocacy
With a small group format of 12 participants, the workshop fostered meaningful interaction, reflection, and connection across different locations and lived experiences. You can check out the combined zine we put together here:
